Yesterday we did our usual breakfast with my parents and my sister Candy. Candy's daughter Jess and her two children, Mackenzie and Kendrick also joined us. Then Don, Lou, Gabe and his friend Mike rolled in. On Sunday mornings Foote's Diner in Port Henry gets a lot of Jaquish family business. June and I then went home and packed. It is so warm I even filled the Roadtrek with water, although did put it in the barn for the night.
Steve and Patty stopped in on their way home from Ohio, after driving 12 hours it was nice of them to take the time to see us before we head out.
By 6PM or so, we were pretty much loaded and ready to go.
We left our house around 05:30 pointed south. Other than one missed turn in Albany, yeah in our own backyard, we made our way to Virginia without any major problems. We were 28 miles from the Malloys when we called them, but arrived at their house an hour and half later....DC traffic.
When we left home it was 24F, but the time we got south of Albany it was in the 40's and raining pretty hard, when we arrived at our friends in Virginia about 6:30 PM it was in the 60's and sunny...very nice. Overall we drove about 585 miles in about 11.5 hours, not great time but we did stop for lunch and arrived in the DC area perfectly timed for rush hour.
We enjoyed catching up with the Malloys and they served us a fine dinner. I am up at 04:30 because we forgot to turn the frig from 12V over to gas when we stopped and I guess we know now how long the RT batteries will power the frig and furnace before the low battery alarm starts beeping.
Today we plan make our way to at least Atlanta, GA. Unfortunately our time is likely to put us there about rush hour and it may be deja vu for us.
All in all not a bad trip so far. Fred has done all the driving....good for me. Getting warmer as we head south and we are shedding the layers. Cannot wait to get the bike out.
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing Bob and Maribeth again, such good friends and fun too! A great start to our trip.
